Fig. 3.

The extended wagon top boiler has radial stays and is designed to carry 200 lbs. pressure. Its fire-box is 120 in. long and 42 in. wide. It presents 206.51 sq. ft. of heating surface, which, with 2721.6 sq. ft. that the water tubes supporting the brick arc give, makes a total of 2943.4 sq. ft. of heating surface.

The method of attaching the low-pressure cylinder to the frames is shown in Fig. 1, the interesting feature being the connection made with the lower bar of the frame. Seven horizontal iJ in. bolts are used here and they extend through the bar and into and through the cylinder walls. From the detail given in Fig. 2 it will be seen that these bolts have 2 in. grooved heads which are counter sunk in the inner face of the cylinder walls. The counter bore about these heads is filled with babbitt when the bolts are in position and the cylinder boring leaves, of course, a perfect finish.
